Pleasant Surprise on some Freelance Projects this year in 2021

Please excuse this mess. I haven’t written for awhile (thanks, COVID, you’re a jerk). This has been one helluva year to say the least. Since March 2020, I have been fully remote from my day job, worked from home with a toddler for four months and now juggle a full-time job and side business with only 35 hours of daycare/week. It’s fine. I’m fine. We are all fine. Blerggghhhh. FINE? No one is fine. That is no longer the answer unless you can get away with “I am pandemic fine. Thanks.” Wink, wink.

My Grandma passed last summer and then my Aunt passed in March 2021 (yes, they had COVID). My Dad has been battling a health issue since May 2019 (that he has asked me not to share about).

However, I press on. I have an amazing support system (husband, daughter, dogs, parents, brother, FRIENDS, etc.) and I’ve leaned on the Marco Polo app to communicate with some of my best friends. I had a therapist in the summer of 2020 but I exhausted the number of sessions through EAP (Employee Assistance Program) and while I have it on my “to do list” to find another one, I’ve been moving it daily. UGH, the thought of calling all these new therapists to see if they are taking on new clients and if they accept my insurance sounds super daunting (but I’ll do it…).

Alas, I’ll get to the point of this blog post. In the midst of what feels like utter chaos sometimes, I had three freelance projects come my way this year that I wasn’t expecting. First, in January, Oracle Women’s Leadership (OWL) group asked me to kick off their professional development series with my Life of Yes: Set 1 Goal workshop. Then, in February, Indeed asked me to revise some of their Career Guides. In March, Ladies Get Paid asked me to do an April webinar of my “Tips & Tricks to Land Interviews” that I had done since 2014 for Dabble.

I don’t share this to brag…I share this to say…keep pressing on. If you keep doing you, somehow the opportunities come. So easy to say and not sure everyone realized the behind the scenes work or things/time I have sacrificed to get here. Café Con Resume is almost 5 years old and it was started with the small intention of bringing in some extra cash (daycare is freaking expensive, y’all!) It has turned in to a passion project and a creative outlet – and I still don’t think I want it to be full-time. How funny is that?

How can I help you get where you want to go? Check out my FAQ or follow my Life of Yes journey by signing up for the newsletter (with some amazing folks across the country – lead by the fabulous Saya Hillman).

My neighbors put up an oxford pennant in their front window that says “TOGETHER WE WILL SEE IT THROUGH” and that is the nicest sentiment to see daily. Let’s do this together – we press on.
